Ho Math and Chess™ Singapore is managed by the following three-person manage team:
Ng Kim Wah graduated with Bachelor of Business (Marketing) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was among a select few chosen to undertake a Minor in Entrepreneurship which he successfully completed with the Nanyang Technological Centre. As part of his coursework, Kim Wah acquired valuable entrepreneur skills and developed his expertise in managing a business independently.
Kim Wah’s entrepreneurial spirit is clearly demonstrated from a young age of 18 with his first business in the shoe trade. This was the impetuous for new business plan hatched while serving his National Service. With drive and passion, he thus founded Guang Feng (G2F), a trading company that imports and exports raw materials such as wood and acrylic within Asia. Kim Wah is a person with foresight and ambitions, who is always on the search for more innovative and efficient ways to deliver solutions to his customers.
Beginning in 2007, he has tutored many primary school students in Maths and this ongoing experience has enabled him to build a deep understanding of the common learning difficulties and educational challenges that students face daily. Now at the age of 24, he has established and currently manages Nurture Education Private Limited, an education centre specializing in providing enrichment classes and tuition services to the public. Currently, there are 3 branches in Singapore with plans for island-wide expansion in the near future to further extend the scope of its services.
When the Ho Math and Chess™ programme was introduced to him, Kim Wah saw the potential of using chess to help students overcome the preconception of Maths as a boring subject. He then proposed a partnership with Ms. Yap Ken Kay to bring this programme to the mainstream market to benefit how Maths is learned and taught in schools.
Wu Di graduated with Bachelor of Computing from National University of Singapore. As a serial entrepreneur, his never fading passion for business has driven him to excel in many industries - education, IT, entertainment, real estate, etc. His burning enterprising spirit and solid technical background get him crowned many friendly titles such as "Secret Technology Weapon", "IT God" and "Asian Bill Gates" (quoted from The Business Times newspaper, Singapore). Since 2006, his innovations and enterprising effort have hit the headlines in major newspapers, TV channels as well as web media from Singapore, Malaysia, China and the United States.
Having gone through years of rigorous Olympiad Maths training in China, he has clinched top awards in numerous competitions such as Gold award for Singapore Mathematical Olympiad. He is not satisfied discovering the secrets to success himself, but loves to share his knowledge and unique way of learning with eager students. Since 2004, he has taught many students O/A level Maths, Olympiad Maths as well as computing in Singapore. Being an avid chess player, he is intrigued by how seamlessly Ho Math and Chess™ can fuse the two subjects together. He would like to extend his educational effort further by popularizing this unique and interesting program in Singapore and the region.
Ms. Yap Ken Kay graduated with Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She has many solid years of consulting design experience designing tall buildings, structures and deep basement and excavation work and as a Civil Engineer, she believes that Mathematics and Chess training is very instrumental to train young minds to be sharp, alert and arithmetically sensitive so that the application of both important subjects become sensibly real in the real world when the children grow up and the skills they acquired will never be lost but preciously treasured as they advance into next phase of their lives.
Having come from a very entrepreneurial business trained grandfather (maternal) and poet grandfather (paternal) and school principal grandmother (paternal) with strong link to Nanyang Schools Alumni Association-Nanyang Girls High School, Ken Kay enjoys start-up of businesses and believes passionately in education especially catering for young children and adolescents. She has kick started a gift distribution business serving Japanese retail giant Takashimaya and established good sales returns in trade fairs hosted by them. By carrying on her passion in business and education, she chanced upon Ho Math and Chess™ and bought Ho Math and Chess™ to Singapore in 2008 to target groups of young students who adore the program very much. The students also enjoy the new Ho Math and Chess™ Teaching Chess set very much and have given lots of positive feedback and responses.
Ken Kay is also a trained basic and intermediate Mathematics Olympiad teacher and has trained classes for Primary 3 to Primary 5 in primary schools. Ken Kay is now the master trainer for Ho Math and Chess™ worksheets in Singapore.
